According to the above subject and context, in the current situation of Covid-19, direct educational work has not been possible by inviting students to schools.  As per the guidelines of the government, the educational work of the students is going on through 'Home Learning'.  In order to reduce the stress of students in the current situation, as per the approval received from the Government, for all the secondary and higher secondary schools recognized by the Gujarat Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, only the academic year 2020-21 is sufficient is performed.  The questions of the subjects of Std. 9th to 12th subjects which have been cancelled from the syllabus for the current year should not be asked in the school as well as in the board examination, but the academic knowledge of these issues should be imparted to the students by the schools.  So as not to harm the students academically in the future.  The above details are requested to be sent to all government, grant-in-aid as well as self-reliant secondary and higher secondary schools under your jurisdiction.

On the formation of Gujarat state on 1st May 1960, a department named Education and labour department came into existence. Social welfare, labour, prohibition, excise and employment were included in the Education department. Latter subjects were gradually taken away from education and Labour Department on administrative grounds. Since August 1976 Education department came into existence as a separate secretariat department, which looks after education including primary education, continuous education, literacy education, secondary education, higher education, technical education, pharmacy education.

Policy Structure :

1) Continuous education and literacy are important programmes.

2) Universalisation of primary education for children in the age group 6 to 14.

3) Restriction on the expansion of secondary and higher education and occupationalisation of secondary education and improvement of secondary and higher education.

4) Concentration of plan and non-plan provisions and best use of investments made in the education sector and the purpose of development.

5) Improvement in quality of implementation.

In view of wide objectives, education department forms policies on education, supervises implementation and issues orders in the form of guidelines and orders. Thus, the Department looks after all matters concerning education. Subjects entrusted to the department under rules of business are mentioned in Appendix A. There are two secretaries as heads of the Education Department, in which one is Principal Secretary (Education) and another is Secretary (Primary Education). There are seven Dy. Secretary and 8 under-secretary. There are various branches dealing with various subjects. There is 18 section officer (Gazetted class 2). They are heads of the branches. There are 8 Heads of Departments and one statutory board under the administrative control of the education department. Following Heads of Departments work under the administrative control of the Education Departmen.
