1 lakh students of government schools will be given the best education free of cost in the School of Excellence every year.

Coaching facility will be provided for JEE, NEET as well as Civil Services Examination.


The Education Department has started the Mission School of Excellence with the objective of imparting high quality schooling to the students studying in the government schools of Gujarat. In this project, a private institution or individual will provide all kinds of facilities free of cost to help the bright students of government schools in shaping their careers. One lakh students will be prepared by the state government every year under this project. According to sources in the education department, the curriculum for children studying in a residential school to be started in the near future as part of the Mission School of Excellence will be prepared by the Cambridge Board. Curriculum will be prepared in coordination with Gujarat Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education and Cambridge Board.


Government school children will be given admission by taking entrance exam

At present, a series of meetings have been going on between the representatives of Gujarat Education Department and Cambridge Board for some time now. The operation is likely to begin after the government gives the go-ahead at the end of the deliberations. The ‘Mission School of Excellence’ project has been implemented by the state government for a complete overhaul of government and grant aided schools in the state. As well as now the norm. It has been decided to set up 6 to 12 residential schools, which have also been approved by the education department by the government. Preparations have also been made by some of the state’s universities to start residential schools. In these residential schools, children studying in government schools of Gujarat will be given admission by taking entrance exam.


The full cost of the children will be borne by the government

The teaching of these children as well as the examination system according to the Cambridge Board is currently under consideration. In addition to the interviews of the teachers who will be appointed in these schools, other agencies besides the Cambridge representative will be appointed by the Gujarat Education Department. Students have to pay a large amount of examination fees. However, if the residential school is typed, these children will not have to pay any such examination fee as the entire cost of education and accommodation of children from Std. 6 to 12 will be borne by the government.

The government will spend Rs 60,000 on each student

According to this policy, the purpose is to find the most talented students from Std-1 to Std-5 and give them quality education free of cost in the next standards. Sources in the education department said that covering one lakh students a year in the policy would cost the government Rs 60,000 per student, bringing the total cost of the entire project to Rs 600 crore. The selection of project partners will be scrutinized by a committee made up of skilled and experienced individuals. The committee will recommend to the Governing Council, composed of the Secretary of Primary and Secondary Education, for the approval of selected applicants.

Coaching facility will be provided for Civil Services Examination

The best teaching method, higher teaching materials and alternative educational medium, which are available in private schools, will be provided in this residential school. Talented students will be sought from these schools and coaching facilities will be provided for them for JEE, NEET as well as Civil Services examinations. According to the state education department, a total of one lakh students from standard 6 to standard 12 will be set up with the capacity of Residential School of Excellence PPP model. To this end, the government has decided to encourage private individuals, organizations, options under corporate social responsibility as well as partners to set up such a school.
