The Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University (BAOU) was established by Act No.14 of 1994 passed by the Gujarat State Legislature, and assented to by the Governor of Gujarat on 27th July 1994. The BAOU is the seventh Open University in the country in terms of its establishment. The University offers 72 programs with an enrolment of more than 1,00,000 learners.

The headquarters of the university is located at Ahmedabad. The University has established Regional Centre on the campus of South Gujarat University, Rajkot, and has initiated the process of another establishing Regional center on the campus of North Gujarat University, Patan. The University has more than 507 study centers. It has jurisdiction over the whole state of Gujarat. It is open to all. Anyone can apply for a study.  

Distance education is a great thing. Many learners who are not able to go personally to study at college for them such universities become a boon for them. In Gujarat, we have so many universities like BAOU, IGNU, Sardar Patel University, Gujarat University, Saurashtra University, Maharaja Krishnakumar University, Vir Narmad University, etc. Many universities are giving facilities for distance education, for external exams. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar is one of the famous universities for distance learning in Gujarat.  

BAOU is conducting exams for the candidates in January and July every year. The students are able to enroll themselves for such courses 2 times in a year. If anybody missed the 1st chance then he/she can apply for 2nd time. But If a person has applied in the month of January then he/she has to give his/her exam in January month only. Such a case is that with the July candidates also, for them the exam will be there in July.

1. Students have to submit the filled form to the center from 12/05/2020 to 11/06/2020.
2. In such critical situations, the students may submit the filled form from 12/06/2020 to 14/06/2020 without a late fee.
